Joining lines using the double Uni Knot

The Double Uni Knot is used for joining two monofilament lines of similar or different diameters. It is also used for joining gelspun lines, both braided and fused, albeit with a marked reduction in strength.

1. Overlap the lines to be joined and encircle one with the tag of the other.

2. Begin wrapping both lines with the tag of the encircling line, working entirely inside the loop.

3. Four wraps is usually sufficient to ensure the Uni Knot won’t slip. However, you may need to double that number when using gelspun lines, either braided or fused, and reduce the number of wraps to just three when tying it with a stiff or heavy line.

4. Close the knot but don’t pull it really tight just yet. Then make the same configuration with the other line.

5. Close the second knot as you did the first.

6. Slide both knots together, pull each tight in turn then trim the tags.
